Sotho mural art
This painting of a chicken roosting depicts a typical boarded up window and wall decorated in the scraped patterns of the Sotho people of South Africa. All the colours used on the dwelling are from clay and stones or rocks. The artist may spend many hours and cover many miles looking for the colour she wants, (virtually all mural dwelling designs are done by women) . I came upon this design whilst travelling with my former husband, Paul Changuion, when we were researching African murals for a book we published called "The African Mural", hence my name appears as Annice Changuion.
The circular design is scraped with a fork into the wet clay (often mixed with cow dung)
