Castor oil
With its thicker consistency castor oil is loaded with vitamin E, fatty acids, and minerals, treating irritated scalps, excess oil, and dandruff, thanks to the fact that castor oil is not only anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial, but it also helps maintain moisture in the skin, adds shine, smooths flyaways, and conditions your hair.
Olive oil
Is most beneficial for dry, thick hair, keeping hair moist and strong, reduces dandruff flaking. Heavily processed hair — hair that’s been treated with relaxers, perms, or bleach — especially benefit from the extra moisture. Olive oil can help smooth the broken or burned ends of your hair.
Olive oil does tend to weigh down thinner hair.
Coconut oil

Is often said to be the best oil to use on your hair to reduce protein loss and keep it looking healthy and shiny and there is evidence behind this claim. Further benefits of coconut oil are lice prevention, sun protection, dandruff treatment and hair loss prevention.
It has been found that coconut oil was better at preventing protein loss than other oils when applied either before or after the hair was washed. In fact, coconut oil came out on top in all of the studies and reduced protein loss in hair that was undamaged, bleached, chemically treated and UV exposed.
Coconut oil is predominantly made up of a medium-chain fatty acid called lauric acid. This gives coconut oil a long, straight structure, which is more easily absorbed deep into the hair shaft.

Coconut oil could help you grow your hair longer by:
  • Moisturizing your hair and reducing breakage
  • Protecting your hair from protein loss and damage when wet
  • Protecting your hair from environmental damage like wind, sun and smoke
Almond oil
Almond oil for hair, which is jam-packed with good stuff, including omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids, vitamin E, and magnesium, that will help strengthen and nourish your strands. Is an emollient, meaning it can fill in gaps in your hair at a cellular level. That makes your hair feel smoother to the touch. Using almond oil on your hair gives it a softer texture over time. Once almond oil is incorporated into your hair care routine, you may also notice that your hair is easier to comb through and style.

Almond oil strengthens and repairs and can make it less prone to breakage and diminish split ends. The lubricating properties of nut oils, like almond oil, diminish friction during hair styling.
Could Almond oil make your hair grow? There aren’t clinical trials that prove that almond oil is effective in making hair grow. But here’s what we do know: almond oil can make hair stronger and less prone to split ends, which means your hair growth won’t be slowed by losing hair that becomes damaged. Almond oil contains high amounts of vitamin E, which is a natural antioxidant. When antioxidants combat the environmental stress around your hair, your hair looks younger and healthier.
Almond oil can also be used as a treatment for flaky scalp (seborrheic dermatitis) and scalp psoriasis. Rubbing a small amount of almond oil directly on your scalp increases blood flow to the area and introduces powerful antioxidants to the skin on your head.

It will leave strands smooth, shiny, and healthy looking—especially if you’re dealing with dryness at the ends of hair, which happens to be a common problem amongst women with coily and curly textures

Using almond oil nourishes and strengthens your hair, and is optimal for damaged hair, almond oil is higher in monosaturated fats (it’s made up of 70 percent of them, while coconut oil and argan oil have only six and 45 percent respectively), which helps it penetrate the hair shaft more easily. Because of its ability to sink in, almond oil is great to use on the ends of your hair, especially strands that have become particularly porous from sun damage and heat styling (and which have endured the most).
Almond oil prevents hair from absorbing too much water, this may sound counterintuitive. However, when hair absorbs too much water too quickly, it makes cuticle scales stand up. This leaves hair more porous and ultimately susceptible to dehydration and breakage. Healthy hair has a lower porosity and is somewhat hydrophobic to balances the amount of water that hair absorbs. So basically, almond oil for hair yields healthy hair, which will thus show itself in shine and smoothness.
Lavender essential oil
Lavender oil needs no introduction given that it has been a rage due to its wonderful aroma. Not only is the smell wonderful but it has additional benefits such as uplifting your mood and inducing sleep. However, not many know that lavender oil can also treat certain hair issues. Lavender oil, when used for hair troubles, can truly be magical.
The oil is antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory in nature, which might prove beneficial in treating and preventing head lice, lice eggs and nits. The antibacterial properties of lavender inhibit the growth of any bacteria and fungi, preventing dandruff, reducing itchy scalp or common scalp infections. So, for better scalp health, choose lavender essential oil!
Recently gaining attention for stimulating hair growth. [ link hidden ] found that lavender oil applied to mice made them grow more hair. Their hair also grew thicker and faster than normal.

This benefit is way more effective when the oil can work itself into the skin. Per these studies, lavender oil may help with issues like pattern baldness or alopecia.
As an extra benefit, lavender has a wonderful smell. Its aroma can literally calm down your nervous system. [ link hidden ], human subjects experienced more relaxation, pleasure, and better moods after inhaling its fragrance.
Peppermint Essential Oil
While peppermint oil may be known for some skin care benefits, it’s also good for your hair and scalp. It may help with dryness, itching, or other scalp problems.

The benefits of peppermint essential oil can be described as antimicrobial, insecticidal and pesticidal, analgesic and anesthetic, vasodilating (and vasoconstricting), anti-inflammatory.
Some people have used the oil as a remedy for hair loss. This may be because the menthol in peppermint essential oil is a vasodilator, and vasodilators improve blood flow. In many instances (such as in female or male pattern baldness), hair loss occurs due to starved blood flow to hair follicles. Increasing circulation with a vasodilator like peppermint could potentially improve hair growth and prevent some hair loss.
Peppermint menthol also imparts a freshened smell and tingly sensation on the skin and scalp. Peppermint oil is extracted from the leaves of the peppermint plant, which contains over 40 different chemical compounds
For your hair, peppermint has been known to stimulate the hair follicles, promote growth, and rebalance the scalp, says Paula Simpson, biochemist, author, and formulation expert. Plus, since it’s an essential oil that has microbial, insecticidal, and anti-inflammatory properties, “it can help with itching of the scalp,”
Various studies have looked into the effects of using peppermint oil on your hair, and the overall findings have pointed to hair growth promoting properties, along with clarifying benefits.
Peppermint oil can also be a solid remedy to an itchy scalp. “Its ability to neutralize certain pathogenic micro-organisms on the skin’s surface makes it an interesting and effective ingredient for combatting a dry, itchy scalp,
When it comes to clarifying, the active ingredient is particularly beneficial for oily hair types. “Peppermint oil works best if you have oily hair, and is more difficult to use if you have dry or brittle hair,” says Dr. King. Using it regularly will regulate oil production and buildup on the scalp, which will result in more shine, too.
Directions:

For optimal results, use 1 - 2 times per week, dampen hair slightly with water and very gently work 4 or 5 drops (depending on hair length and texture) through your hair and scalp before shampooing to nourish your hair, before blow drying to protect your hair or as a leave-in to give the ultimate smoothness and shine.
Hot Oil Treatment:
Warm a small amount of oil in the microwave. You shouldn’t have to warm it for more than a few seconds. The oil should be warm and not hot to the touch. Apply the warm oil to your scalp and massage in.
Use a wide-tooth comb to disburse the oil down the hair shaft and cover with a shower cap for 20 minutes, prior to shampooing.
To remove excess oil buildup, try NuLengths Detox Natural Cleanser.
