Elizabeth Wood Artist

Hi! Welcome to my shop!

I am a self-taught visual artist working in Cape Town, where I was also born. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be an artist. When I was young there was little encouragement that art could be pursued as a career and instead I was steered towards the sciences. By starting a career as a landscaper I hoped to fuse my love of the natural environment with my creative talents into a more 'practical' career. In my mid-life, however, I decided to follow my lifelong dream. Now I feel I am doing what I was born to do!

The Story of my Dove Series

The story of my dove series is my story. It is a personal story of struggle and ultimate triumph. Birds are a symbol in my life, right now, of the freedom and triumph I now feel, though it was not always so.

At the early age of 16 years I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. There followed many difficult years. For anyone familiar with this illness you know the mental anguish of mood fluctuations, debilitating depression and struggles that go with it. This was part of my life for many years, but now with acceptance, the help of medication and a strong support system I have overcome the illness.

I plan to have an art exhibition in 2020 that embraces this theme. My intention is to inspire those effected in similar ways and to give hope. This undertaking will require funds, funds that I don't have. You can help in making this inspirational exhibition a reality by purchasing one of my doves. All the profits of the sales will go into funding the exhibition.

Oh yes, and thank you for reading my story.

The world is so beautiful. I just love to paint God’s beautiful creation. This is reflected in my delicate botanicals of the beautiful Fynbos flora of my native Western Cape. I have made these original watercolours available on Hello Pretty. They are all done on quality watercolour paper and set in fine mounts in keeping with the painting. I generally sell them unframed for ease of transportation. I hope you enjoy looking at them.

I occasionally choose other subject matter to paint that is of interest to me. They may be other flowers or places I have visited.

Please enjoy browsing my store. God bless!
