What is Aquamarine ?
Feeling overwhelmed in the energy department? If you’re drawn to the icy blue energy of Aquamarine, it’s a sign that you need a dose of Vitamin ‘Sea’ and the regenerative healing properties of water. Wear it on your skin as a necklace or bracelet and immediately feel the calming effects of its water-infused vibes. The Romans once believed that Aquamarine was the cure for laziness as it is known to be "energy giving"
Aquamarine has been prized as a valuable gemstone and used in jewellery for thousands of years. Its name is derived from the Latin " aqua marina", "sea water" and it is of the same species of gemstone as Emerald and Morganite, Beryl. It has a hardness 7.5-8.0 and which makes its good for everyday wear in jewellery. Aquamarine used in jewellery is usually flawless and without inclusions, large and well saturated aquamarine can fetch very high prices and are always in demand. Aquamarine is rare and can be found in a number of location across the globe. However the best quality stones of late are originating from Nigeria, Afghanistan, Mozambique and Madagascar. The most important characteristic to consider when buying aquamarine is its colour, and secondly its clarity. Good quality aquamarine must display well saturated and uniform colour throughout the stone. Its primary hue should be blue, hints of green as a secondary colour can also be beautifull and valuable but must not be its primary hue. We buy all of our aquamarine in the rough and cut the stones ourselves, this ensures high quality, ethical supply chain and very good value for money.
