One of the Hello Pretty team, Justin, left Cape Town yesterday for a blissful 2 week break in Japan. So instead of writing about how bitterly jealous I am, sitting here in these foggy overcast conditions, I’m posting some vintage Japan snaps from the Flickr Commons.
- Woman with mirrors, taken in 1890.
- Home Learning to play a harp-like instrument.
- Playing the samisen which is a 3-stringed guitar.
- A doctor and his patient. Taken between 1867 and 1869. Is that a sword poking out from under his cape? Not sure I would like being treated under those conditions.
This one’s a little more modern (from 1966), but I loved it and had to include it. Japanese Origami, photographed in 1966.
This excites us!
"It’s a bit Japanese, it’s sweetly feminine, a little Folky, a tad popp-y, and just a little bit mad!" - Heather Moore of Skinny laMinx. How appropriate on the eve of my trip to Japan).
Thanks Heather. Thanks for being awesome.
The current object of my affection: New Moon Africa's iKapa coat rack. Trying to work out how to fit this into our studio apartment - I must have it! Don’t remember the name of the store right at the moment but I know that there is a place at the Old Biscuit Mill who carries them and if memory serves they are in the region of R350.
