Ant At Home
About the designer
Welcome to Ant At Home. My reasons for opening a shop has much to do with the realisation that there is a great need for unique fashion clothing for the unconventional woman. Feminine, comfortable clothing, but with individual nuances. A suttle difference in each and every garment makes us feel special, unique... I make and design all the garments, and love the freedom to do so.. From cutting out the pattern, assembling the pieces and finally stitching them together. I try not to waste, thereby creating new outfits with fabric left over from before. In this way, each creation becomes uniquely different, in that "no two garments are ever the same". Much of the fabric is very old, for example Indian silks, muslins and cottons, which adds to the timeless feel. These fabrics are also "one of" and very fragile. I have been interested in sewing from a young age following in my mom's footsteps... After school and before finding my feet, I worked in admin for a Fashion magazine, travelled extensively, but eventually returned to the sewing machine :) My other passion is Art. Sewing is a creative Art. Researching daily, I try to build up my own, unique self-knowledge, of what is beautiful. The latter gives me great satisfaction, and pushes me forward... ...As an architect, or artist, would draw or paint, designing clothes is not much different, in that one is able to use the imagination and steely practicality to bring into form something Unique!. ..and thereby, losing oneself in the landscape of Imagination!. In 2010 I moved away from my hometown to a small seaside village in Hermanus. I now work from home, enjoying the days and cultivating my imagination with newfound ideas. To see customers happy and feeling beautiful wearing my clothes gives me great pleasure. Enjoy browsing.
